Abstract

GREEN SUPPLY CHAIN provides a comprehensive and systematic exploration of the transition from traditional linear supply chains to circular and sustainable supply chain models. The book is designed to equip academics, students, practitioners, and policymakers with conceptual foundations, strategic frameworks, and practical insights into implementing green and circular supply chains in response to global environmental, social, and economic challenges.

The book begins by examining the basic concepts of the circular supply chain, highlighting the fundamental differences between linear and circular models. It elaborates on the core principles of the circular economy, reduce, reuse, recycle, repair, and refurbish, while analyzing their socio-ecological and economic impacts, as well as global trends driving the adoption of circular approaches.

Subsequent chapters focus on design and production within circular supply chains, emphasizing green product design, eco-design principles, environmentally friendly and biodegradable materials, extended product life cycle strategies, and zero-waste manufacturing. The role of enabling technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, blockchain, and 3D printing is also discussed as key drivers of efficiency, transparency, and sustainability.

The book further positions waste management as a critical source of value creation by addressing reverse logistics, take-back programs, upcycling, downcycling, remanufacturing, industrial symbiosis, and emerging waste marketplaces. Implementation strategies are then presented, including supply chain mapping, performance measurement, green procurement and logistics, internal governance, and the development of circular human resource competencies.
